Mapping Tumor Evolution to Improve Treatment

Ovarian cancer emerges from a constantly evolving ecosystem of cells. The MSK SPECTRUM project is one of the most ambitious efforts to map that evolution in the clinical setting by studying patients over time. This work combines single-cell genomics with mathematical of evolutionary processes to understand how tumors adapts, resist therapy, and interact with the immune system.

April was a modest month for vaginal cancer literature, yielding four open-access papers directly relevant to this community: a meta-analysis on treatment outcomes for high-grade precancerous lesions, a surgical case report on managing post-radiation recurrence, a systematic review on a rare condition linked to vaginal and cervical cancer, and a review of sexual health in gyne cancer survivors.

Last Month in Cervical Cancer Research

April brought a wide range of relevant research, with the strongest open-access evidence concentrated in three areas: immunotherapy combinations for people with recurrent or metastatic disease, a landmark modeling study on how the United States should adapt its screening guidelines, and a sustained focus on the equity gaps that remain the defining obstacle to to eliminating a preventable cancer.

Last Month in Vulvar Cancer Research

Vulvar cancer is rare, accounting for roughly 5% of gynecologic cancer diagnoses, and monthly research output reflects that: April yielded 10 confirmed papers. This digest covers a single open-access paper with a permitted license, which offers meaningful data on how vulvar cancer is being diagnosed and treated in an understudied part of the world.
