Extrarenal Uptake of 99mTc-DMSA in Uterine Leiomyoma
We present a DMSA renal scan finding in a 42-year-old woman with new flank pain. Ultrasonography revealed hydronephrosis and renal stones. A 99mTc-DMSA renal scan showed global cortical loss and multiple cortical defects in the left kidney, with an incidental large zone of uptake in the abdominopelvic region initially suspected as bladder. SPECT/CT imaging clarified this as a large leiomyoma which is proved in permanent pathology. This case highlights the importance of advanced imaging to distinguish physiological organs from tumoral masses and avoid misdiagnosis.
